The year’s biggest door closes Thursday, July 30. Most of you should walk past it.
Every Saturday, First Officer reads the week across 13 banks and 629 loyalty programs and hands you what matters. Last Saturday this dispatch printed a midnight deadline on the Accor door. It closed exactly as written, and a client walked through it first. This week the read is harder to say out loud: the largest transfer bonus of the year expires Thursday, July 30, and for most wallets the right move is to let it go. Here is the arithmetic behind that.

What it means for your wallet
Stronger. A quiet 20% door: Citi to Flying Blue at 1:1.2 through August 22. Into a currency we value near 1.5 cents, that returns about 1.8 cents per point, nearly double what the headline bonus returns.
Weaker. The 100% IHG bonus has a floor problem. IHG sells its own points near 0.5 cents, so doubling into them lands near 1.0 cent per Chase point. The biggest number on the board is the smallest return on it.
Closing. The 100% window ends Thursday, July 30, at 11:59 PM ET, then reopens Friday, July 31, at 70% through Monday, August 31. The door narrows, it does not shut. Panic transfers are the trap.

One call, kept in print
Last Saturday this page printed a midnight deadline. R. moved 80,000 points through it before lunch.
The Accor door closed that night as printed. The same move this morning lands 20,000 fewer points, roughly $460 less in hotel credit by our valuation. Anonymized, one detail changed, number verified.

One wallet sees its week. First Officer sees the weather.
M. is one line. Behind that line, First Officer has read roughly 3,375 redemptions and 961 transfers across our client base since Jan 1, 2026. Rolled together, individual moves become trends, and trends are the thing no single wallet can ever see on its own.

Read the two boards together and the week has a shape. The Accor door shut and southern Europe cooled with it. The volume moved to Paris and Amsterdam on a 20% bonus, while the 100% door drew a deadline rush our desk mostly declined to join. The loudest door is rarely the widest one. That collective read is what hundreds of wallets produce together, and it is the same intelligence pointed at your wallet the moment you send it.

13 things First Officer saw. That one wallet couldn't.
Each card below is one insight from this week's aggregate: a pattern that only appears when hundreds of wallets are read at the same time. A chart that got hungrier, a portal tax hiding on one route, a hotel bonus that priced like a loss, our clients' points sorted by what they actually returned. Numbered, dated, and stripped of every name. This is the weekly read.

Bar length is time left, not size. Chase to IHG at 1:2 ends Thursday, July 30, at 11:59 PM ET, then reopens Friday, July 31, at 1:1.7 through Monday, August 31. Citi to Flying Blue runs to Saturday, August 22, and is the quiet winner of the week. Amex to Virgin Atlantic and Cap One to EVA both end Friday, July 31, and on EVA the bonus still loses: Citi moves ThankYou points there at 1:1 every day of the year.

Malaysia Airlines is matching Air India and Garuda elites into Enrich, and Enrich Platinum maps to oneworld Emerald: lounges and priority across the alliance. We value IHG points at 0.5¢, and IHG itself sells them at that price several times a year. Double them and 1,000 Chase points buy about $10 of IHG currency: roughly 1.0¢ per Chase point, then 0.85¢ from Friday, July 31. One lever changes the answer. A co-branded IHG card makes the fourth award night free, which lifts a four-night stay to about 1.33¢ per Chase point. That is the test. Our clients found 3 stays that passed it this week and walked past 41 that did not.

Monthly credit lines do not roll. Hotels led for the first time since spring, at 31% against 24% last Saturday, while flights slid from 34% to 28%. That is the Accor door and the IHG deadline pulling value indoors in the same week two air doors sat shut. The mix moves with the board, which is the argument for reading the whole board rather than one wallet.
