Aisha’s Lisbon stay was the “2.9¢ and proud” poster child. Hyatt moved the category on May 20.
Inside: the autopsy of the Hyatt Regency Lisbon sweet spot, the Evolved chart that pushed a Category 4 to a 5, and the Air France business seat we put Aisha in instead.
Aisha, a food writer in Boston, had a Lisbon plan the blogs love to frame: a peak-August week at the Hyatt Regency Lisbon, a Category 4, cashing out around 2.9 cents a point. On May 20, 2026, Hyatt’s Evolved chart reclassified the property to Category 5, roughly doubling the nightly cost and dragging the same peak-August stay down toward 0.9 cents a point. The “2.9¢ and proud” thesis this issue was built on no longer holds. So we moved her the way the discipline demands: Air France business to Lisbon by way of Paris, about 50,000 Flying Blue miles one-way, a program every major card feeds at 1:1. The hotel she books on cash; the $3,000 seat is the claim. When the chart doubles, you change the door, not the trip.

The insight: a redemption’s cents-per-point is only as fixed as its award category. When Hyatt moved Lisbon from a 4 to a 5, the property did not change, but the math that made it a trophy did. Value the category on the live chart, not on last year’s screenshot.
| 01 | Dated the category against the live chart. Hyatt’s Evolved reclassification landed May 20, 2026; the Hyatt Regency Lisbon moved from Category 4 to Category 5 that day. |
| 02 | Repriced the same peak-August week. The nightly cost roughly doubled at Category 5, pulling the redemption from about 2.9 cents a point down toward 0.9. |

💀 Hyatt’s Evolved chart moved the Regency Lisbon from Category 4 to 5 on May 20, 2026. Nightly cost roughly doubled and the peak-August stay fell toward 0.9 cents a point. A category is a price, and prices move.
🧟 The “2.9¢ and proud” Lisbon posts are still circulating. Most predate the reclassification. Value every hotel stay on the live category before you crown it a sweet spot.
This issue is an honest obituary, and a real booking. The claim that anchored it died on the chart; we didn’t fake a replacement, we found the door still open and verified it live. A dead sweet spot isn’t a loss. It’s a signal to move.
Lisbon was the plan; the category moved first. We synced to her accounts the morning the chart moved, priced the doubled hotel against a live Lisbon seat, and booked the one still open.
