The last door gets its final week and the same sentence it got on day 4: priced stay or nothing.

A week of watching the 70% hotel door and the verdict hasn’t moved an inch: priced stay or nothing. Tonight’s tool is the breakeven, and it takes one napkin: your hotel bill, divided by the points the app wants, tells you what each point is buying. The crossover is almost never where the slider implies.

THE CLAIM · THE VERDICT, WORKING
A steel room key with a blank tag
120,000  4 AWARD NIGHTS AT LIST
90,000 points, 4 nights
A second 4-night IHG block · cash rate compared first · the door’s only clean shape
Same shape as day 4 because the math has not changed: a member with the co-brand and a real 4-night stay, cash rate checked first, booked 90,000 points for 120,000 worth of nights, about $150 of freed value at the half-cent anchor. Two clean blocks in a month is what a hold-unless-priced verdict looks like when people actually follow it. The slider below is the same species of trap in different clothing: any time a program lets you mix points and cash, it has already done the division and hopes you will not.

All-points at your valuation  the honest baselineCOMPUTE FIRST
Points + cash mixes  each notch is a points sale priceDIVIDE EACH
Mixes above your valuation  the program buying points cheapDECLINE
Any slider, undivided  the designed outcomeNEVER ✕
The insight: every points-plus-cash notch is the program quoting you a buy-back price for your points. Most notches quote below honest value, some quote above, and the slider’s whole design assumes you will never compute which is which.
VERIFIED AUGUST 25, 2026 · RATIO TERMS, 4TH-NIGHT TERMS, AND CASH RATES RE-CHECKED THIS MORNING
THE MECHANISM · 17 OF 21
Points-plus-cash breakevens
For any mixed option: take the all-points price, subtract the mixed points price, and divide the cash difference by the points difference. That quotient is what the program is paying you per point at that notch. Above your honest valuation of the currency, take the cash-heavy mix; below it, pay points. Ten seconds per notch, and the slider stops being a mood ring.
The sentence an affiliate site cannot print: sliders exist because per-notch division is 10 seconds nobody does, and the program’s margin lives in that nobody.
FOR THE HOUSEHOLD
Your next hotel bill, run the napkin before autopiloting points-or-cash: the cash price divided by the points the app asks. Above 1.5 cents a point, points play; below it, pay cash and keep your points flexible. The second 4th-night block cleared this week on exactly that one line of arithmetic.
FOR THE OPERATOR
Publish the napkin as policy: “points at 1.5 cents or better, otherwise cash.” One line in the travel memo, and bookings stop leaking value at the front desk. Your controller will ask why nobody wrote it sooner.
HOW WE READ IT
01Cash-compared the stay first, as the verdict requires; the block cleared the bar.
02Booked the 4-night shape: 90,000 for 120,000 worth, freed value printed small.
03Ran the slider division on 3 pending stays; 1 mix actually beat all-points…

🗓️Six days on the promo’s 1:1 pricing too.Economy 37,500, premium 50,000 roundtrip through the lattice, to the 31st. The +10% into Asia Miles dies Friday.
🎚️Run one slider yourself.Any mixed award you are considering: divide the notch. Ten seconds tells you who is buying whom.
📉Monday the month closes. The ratio, the +15%, and the promo all die with it; the +10% goes first, Friday. The Close scores everything.
THE LESSON
A slider is a quote for your points, one notch at a time. Divide the notch or the notch divides you.
